GRANTS & AWARDS

The Norfolk Commission on the Arts and Humanities awards grants to nonprofit organizations that provide a variety of performing, visual and cultural arts and humanities activities taking place in Norfolk.

Grants are made to support full season offerings as well as projects. Criteria include effective management and community support for these programs and consideration is given for activities that respond to the cultural needs of Norfolk's ethnic and underserved communities.

The Commission also provides services to the field, that have included Board Development Training, Business Planning Seminars, Strategic Planning, Grant Writing, Co-Op Advertising, Coalition Brochures and Marketing.  This assistance is meant to encourage good business practices by art organizations.

FY09 Grant Guidelines can be downloaded here.

Any 501(c)3 arts organization interested in applying for a grant for the first time should contact Mark Watson, Arts Manager, at mark.watson@norfolk.gov (757-664-4330).  First time applicants are required to schedule a meeting before submitting a grant application.

Norfolk Commission on the Arts and Humanities staff can provide assistance to arts organizations interested in the grant process by helping to determine eligibility, discuss grant requirements and contractual obligations and review draft applications and revisions.
