This area is forecasted to grow based on its historical appeal, demand for
branded retail establishments, the growing and renewed interest in residential
offerings
and the near downtown amenities. Add the cultural and arts areas nearby, community
institutions and major roads and this area is poised for growth.

Current plans
include the renovated and historic Attucks Theater, a landmark for the African
American community since 1919; it is the oldest theater in the state. The
City of
Norfolk is supporting a $6 million renovation with the Crispus Attucks Cultural
Center Inc. and is scheduled for completion this year.

T he Church Street area is defined as the corridor between Brambleton Ave.
and Virginia Beach Blvd.; and the triangle at the Church/Granby Street and
26th Street intersection. It is also known as the Attuck's Commercial district.
